Emergencies

For urgent matters, Dr. Kafka can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, when she is in town*, by calling the office number (212-688-2100). Outside of business hours, you will reach the answering service, who will contact her. Please do not call at these hours for routine matters. Please be aware that Dr. Kafka may, on occasion, be unavailable for several hours – for example, when in the operating room.

In the event of a true emergency, please call 911 and/or go to the nearest emergency room, as well as leaving a message for Dr. Kafka. Do not wait for a call back. If you go to Lenox Hill Hospital or Beth Israel Medical Center, Dr. Kafka will be able to direct your care. If you go elsewhere, she will communicate with the doctors regarding your condition and care, and may be able to transfer you to one of the above hospitals if necessary and appropriate.

*At those time when Dr. Kafka is not in New York, another board-certified surgeon will be available, through the office number, to take your call.
